If you believe content on Nations Atlas infringes your copyright, here is how to file a takedown notice — and how to file a counter-notice if you believe your content was removed in error.
Overview
Nations Atlas respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users, contributors, and reviewers to do the same. We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512, and with equivalent copyright laws in other jurisdictions where they apply.
If you believe that content on https://nationsatlas.com infringes your copyright, you can send us a DMCA takedown notice using the process below. If your content has been removed and you believe the removal was in error, you can file a counter-notice.

How to file a takedown notice
To be effective under the DMCA, your notice must include all of the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature (an email signature is sufficient).
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed. If multiple works, a representative list.
- Identification of the material on our site that you claim is infringing, with enough detail (specifically, the URL) for us to locate it.
- Your contact information — mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.

Once we receive a compliant notice, we will:
- Acknowledge receipt within 3 business days.
- Assess the notice for completeness.
- If the notice is complete and appears valid, remove or disable access to the material expeditiously.
- Notify the affected contributor (if any) that the material has been removed and share your notice with them, unless prohibited by law.
Filing a false DMCA notice can expose you to liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f) and equivalent laws. Please make sure your claim is genuine before submitting a notice. If you are unsure whether use of your work qualifies as fair use, consult a qualified lawyer.
How to file a counter-notice
If material you posted or provided to us has been removed on the basis of a DMCA notice, and you believe the removal was in error or misidentification, you may file a counter-notice. To be effective, your counter-notice must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that has been removed and its location before removal (the URL).
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if you are outside the US, any judicial district in which we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice or that person's agent.

Once we receive a compliant counter-notice, we will forward it to the party who filed the original notice. If that party does not file a court action within 10 to 14 business days, we may reinstate the removed material.
Repeat infringers
Nations Atlas terminates the accounts and privileges of contributors who are repeat infringers under our policies. Where a contributor has been the subject of multiple valid takedown notices, we may permanently bar them from further contribution or comment.
Misrepresentation
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that material was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages. We reserve the right to seek damages, including legal costs, where a notice or counter-notice is filed in bad faith or with reckless disregard for the truth.
If your work is on our site with your permission
If you have granted us a licence — for example, as a cultural reviewer who wrote copy for a page, or as a photographer whose image we licensed — and you want to withdraw permission for future use, please email editorial@nationsatlas.com rather than filing a DMCA notice. We resolve these situations directly and quickly. DMCA is for genuine unauthorised use.
